Athletics
Athletics play a significant part in student life at Santa Margarita Catholic High School. Whether as a participant or spectator each student experiences a sense of pride, excitement and accomplishment. SMCHS belongs to the Trinity League, a highly competitive group of seven schools in the Orange County area. Over 70% of the student body actively participates in our extensive 14-sport program involving 24 separate teams.

SMCHS has had phenomenal athletic success in its 22-year history, capturing 145 league titles, 42 CIF titles, four Southern California Regional titles and four State Champion titles since 1991. In addition to those team successes, SMCHS has produced 51 individual CIF Champions and 38 CIF Players of the Year.

SMCHS’ success in sports is due to the quality of an experienced coaching staff and the overall enthusiastic response of our student athletes. Twelve of the head coaches are educators, teaching at SMCHS full-time, and as such, realize the primary importance of performance in the classroom. The discipline and respect generated in the academic area, along with the spirit and enthusiasm of hundreds of students have resulted in a competitive and highly successful athletic program. At SMCHS, academics and athletics go hand in hand.
